Milk and Honey Outreach Ministries will hold their annual Self-Awareness Winter Conference on Saturday, December 3, 2011. Pensacola area girls, ages 10-17 years old, are being called to attend the annual conference called "Precious GEMS" from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00p.m. at the Perry Home, an annex building next door to the United Methodist Church, 3 E. Wright St., Pensacola, Florida. Returning this year as Master of Ceremonies is Robin Reshard and Guest Speaker will be Sue Straughn, WEAR-TV.
Girls Embracing A More Excellent Way (GEMS) is a program of Milk and Honey Outreach Ministries. The conference will reinforce the mission of GEMS by helping the girls set high goals of self-awareness, embracing a new generation of standards, and choosing a more healthy life path. The girls will learn new strategies and strengthen themselves by finding their own individual gifts and talents.
Participants will attend age appropriate breakout sessions that will focus on goal setting, improve self-awareness, identify God-given gifts and strengths, and gain knowledge from professionals on human sexual development, sexually transmitted diseases, AIDS, and pregnancy prevention.
Milk and Honey Executive Director, Sonya Culliver, hopes that the conference provides an opportunity for girls in the Pensacola and surrounding areas to meet each other and learn valuable information for their future. "Our goal is for the girls to learn about these issues in positive fun environment before they are faced with the challenges of them. The conference will have valuable information that is age appropriate for all 10-17 year old girls in our community, not just African-American girls and we hope all girls attend."
The conference will end with a ceremony celebrating the girls' commitment to a healthy lifestyle. All girls participating will receive a bracelet commemorating this event and serving as a reminder to their commitment.
Registration for the event is free to all girls. Transportation, breakfast, and lunch is provided to all. Spots are limited to 300 participants.
